nwah cic: Our ethics
At Nubia Wellness and Healing (NWAH) CIC, our ethics are rooted in classical and traditional African ethical systems. For us, ethics are not simply rules or policies. They are ways of treating one another, ways of living, and pathways for moral and spiritual development.
Our work is guided by principles drawn from African Psychology, African centred philosophies, and ancestral wisdom traditions adapted for modern community wellbeing.
We are inspired by
- The principles of Ma’at, including truth, balance, justice, harmony, reciprocity, and right relationship
- The spirit of Ubuntu, recognising that “I am because we are,” and that individual wellbeing is connected to collective upliftment and community betterment
- The 5 characteristics of healthy African functioning, which include divinity, teachability, perfectibility, free will, and moral and social responsibility
- The principles of Ifá, including the responsibility to leave the world better than we found it
- The virtues, teachings, and ideals of the ancient Kemetic (Egyptian) mystery systems, which encourage steadfastness of purpose, identity with a spiritual life, freedom from resentment under persecution, confidence in one’s own ability to learn, and preparedness for initiation
These ethical foundations influence how we deliver the 7 strands of NWAH CIC activity, including therapy, coaching, training, leadership, supervision, community healing spaces, and organisational decision making.
In a contemporary context, this means we strive to operate in ways that are accountable, reflective, relational, and community guided
Our Board of Directors acts as a modern expression of a Community of Elders, not only in terms of years lived on this Earth, but through the development of wisdom and the willingness to share that wisdom with others.
Alongside this, our Advisory Board reflects the spirit of the Mbongi, a traditional communal gathering space where reflection, challenge, wisdom, and dialogue help keep communities aligned with their values and collective purpose.
We believe organisations should not only provide services, but also contribute toward healing, justice, wisdom, and the betterment of this generation and the next.
